Haras de Pirque Hussonet Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon
This bold red wine has spicy, and fresh black fruit aromas and slight mint and rosemary flavors.
The Flavor Profile
Mint, walnut, spearmint, and black currant give this wine flavor. With a full body of fruit and polished tannins this red wine is a great and classy cabernet.
This “big & bold” wine pairs well with risotto, lamb, or pasta.
The Good Stuff
It’s a great price for a really good Cabernet
“Wow-this wine shows very open fruit right out of the bottle.”
Soft texture with some long tannons to finish it off.
The Bad Stuff
Some would say this red cab has a very dry and sudden finish after getting the flavors of fruit.
Many said that this wine needs to aerate before drinking and that it is better after it matures a little more.
YOUNG COLLECTORS TAKE NOTE! The James Suckling rating of 95 is not justified but this is a fine value and a great learning opportunity. Right now (April 2016) the wine is a bit rough owing largely to the high alcohol. Still, it is pretty big and it has all the parts. The nose needed some air to come up and likewise the balance and fruit were a bit off at first; decant to aerate at least an hour before drinking. This wants some years, though. At the case price offered by Wine.com I’d suggest that collectors in their 20’s or 30’s buy a case or two and try a bottle every two or three years. You’ll never have a more affordable opportunity to observe the maturation of a big, Medoc-style claret. In ten or fifteen years this’ll be a surprise you can haul out to wow guests and friends and it’ll probably still drink well in 2040.
A classy cabernet with mint, walnut, spearmint and black currant character. Full body, solid core of fruit and lots of polished tannins that gives the wine form. A red made by the great Italian winemaking family of Antinori. Better in 2017.
